Interview
Group Interview
Applied and received an email for group interview two days later. At the store I met another six applicants waiting, a mixed demographic of ages and backgrounds. A bit of politely awkward conversation, after all you want to be friendly, but everyone wants the job.
At the designated time we were greeted by two ALDI area managers and invited into the staff break area. Another three or four people arrived a little later making for an amusingly snug interview. Watched a video on ALDI in Australia and were then asked some things we learned about the company. We then had a minute to introduce ourselves, our background and something interesting about yourself. It pays to have something ready, especially if you aren't the bragging type, so you don't get stuck stammering and seeming unsure and unimpressive. We then filled out some papers re. Availability, location preferences etc. We then took a tour of the store and were given examples of ALDI's simplicity and efficiency in action. A look out the back and then any questions we had.
Later the same day I received an email for a one on one interview in a week. Will update on that as it happens.
I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ALDI (Fort Lauderdale, FL) in Aug 2015
Interview
I applied at an in store job fair, received a call for an interview the same day. First interview was with the District Manager, she handled the interview very well and was very friendly and engaging. The second interview was with which seemed like the Store Manager. I asked him if he was the store manager but he didn't answer my question. Among other things the Store manager told me that the job is thankless job and that it would break my back, that employees of Aldi never get praised for their work - because it's never done. He showed me the back of the store and while back there I saw an employee struggling with a frozen box of meat , double her size. She was about to topple over and I went to help. The manager got between us and told me to leave her alone saying she was stronger than she looked. He never asked me any questions about my previous work, he never stopped talking and spoke rapidly. It was a really bizarre interview and I wondered if he wasn't under the influence of some substance.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ALDI (Melbourne) in Dec 2014
Interview
I applied online through their site, surprised to receive an email to a group interview (completely forgot that I had applied).
We were all waiting outside the store, the people conducting the interview took us in 20 minutes later than the scheduled time. They took us into a back room within the store itself. There was about 10 of us, cramped around a small table with chairs with the two recruiters standing at the front. They were really nice and straightforward. We had to introduce our neighbour, then take any product in the store and introduce that. Afterwards at the very end there was a simple arithmetic test with 5 minutes to do it. I completed it under a minute and left.
I was called for a one-on-one interview the following week, it was with the two recruiters. They asked for my availability, background check and police check.
Surprisingly, the recruiter said I would start Monday as soon as the paperwork was finalised.
Then on Monday, I get an email saying I was unsuccessful, with no way to contact the recruiters (they used no-reply emails and private numbers) I was left disheartened and confused.
