I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ALDI (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2021
Interview
Received a phone screen call shortly after applying. The conversation went very well as I have years of experience managing retail operations and dealing with internal and external partnerships, including buying.
The next round of interviews was over Microsoft Teams, with 4 Aldi employees and 3 other candidates, and myself.
I was immediately worried as everyone on the call was female and I am a male. Regardless, my answers were to the round robin questioning were detailed, relevant, and delivered without issue or nervousness (years of experience will do that).
Despite the other candidates all displaying a variety of nervousness and sometimes cagey answers, I left the interview confident that I was the strongest candidate in experience and skill.
However, I do believe my initial concerns were valid as a couple days later I received the generic "No Thank You" email. When I reached out for feedback to improve future chances, it went unanswered.
Clear hiring bias not placed on qualifications as well as poor communication and professionalism.
Pass.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at ALDI (Batavia, IL) in Jun 2021
Interview
Aldi's recruiter reached out to me to apply for this position on LinkedIn. After the 1st interview I was informed to apply. I applied for this position and was moved onto the 2nd interview which was held as a virtual group interview due to COVID. There were 2 recruiters, 2 department leaders and 4 candidates. We answered various questions in alphabetical order buy 1st name. There seemed to be positive responses for each question I answered but I was denied the position. This is my second time applying for this specific position however, I've applied for other Aldi jobs. The process seems convoluted and no reason is actually given when you're denied.

Name a time you dealt with a difficult situation. How did you handle it and what was the outcome?

Interview
Do not bother applying to this role if you are a male. I interviewed (4 times) and got to the final round. The manager I interviewed with made it very known that she did not want a male for this position and that a woman was much preferred. Given my credentials and ability to succeed in this role based on my previous experience, I truly believe this is why I did not get the role here, which looking back on I'm sure glad I didn't.
