Since ChatGPT and other generative AI technologies have become increasingly widespread, more and more professionals are using it in the workplace. As adoption in the workplace continues to rise, professionals on Fishbowl by Glassdoor are weighing in on how they feel about the idea of ChatGPT being banned or restricted at work.

Nearly 10,000 professionals in the U.S. weighed in and while the vast majority (80%) do not think ChatGPT should be banned or restricted at work, 20% say it should.

How do certain industries feel about a ban?

  • Professionals in Advertising (87%), Marketing (87%), Consulting (84%), and Healthcare (83%) feel most strongly against their companies banning or restricting access to ChatGPT.
  • Law professionals have a proportionally higher number of professionals advocating for the ban or restriction of ChatGPT in the workplace with 32% voting in favor of it.

Not surprisingly, only 17% of professionals aged 21-25 support a ban, compared to 28% of professionals aged 45+, showing generational differences when it comes to accepting AI.

Methodology: This survey ran from May 25th, 2023 through May 31st, 2023 and was answered by nearly 10,000 U.S. professionals on Fishbowl by Glassdoor. Respondents could answer with either "Yes'' or "No”.
