Pros

Great stepping stone to gain experience for future employment.

Cons

Stressful lifestlye, invasive leadership, no control over where you'll be sent. Also, recruitment is a shady business in the military. I entered the recruiting office with a four year degree from a prominent Texas University and was told they will no longer give commissionings to walk-ins off the street, the navy is now only promoting enlisted people to officer from within the navy. This was a bold misconception of the truth.

Pros

The nuclear navy (submarines) has some of the best people to work with. The crews are competant and professional for the most part.

Cons

In the Nuclear Navy, it is a zero tolerance place to work. This is for obvious reasons; however, the personal side of things is lost. People are not generally given leadership appreciation but rather good performance is expected - so what is the big deal? This is good in some regards but has a long term demoralizing effect.

Non-specific work hours, long periods away from family.
