      Classic failure study: PwC - Booz integration

      Pay. Thats it [shows money alone will not retain folks]

      Cons

      Lost identity both at clients and campus recruiting Pwc folks have no clue about Strategy& capabilities and vice versa, oh we do that too attitude, why is it being charged so high Price dilution, selling work at heavy discounts to keep folks billable Huge number of folks on the beach and significant talent dilution - in some large offices there are NO legacy booz folks (outside of partners) Legacy Booz partners have no power to call the shots (this is a huge issue) Boat load of pwc folks try to move into strategy& and now moving back to pwc Advice to campus/students: best to look at other firms for your career.

      Pros

      Good salary (but offset by ridiculously bad tax policy - see below) Some very smart people

      Cons

      Treats people like crap. Just let go a bunch of people unceremoniously, some of whom did not deserve this fate (cost cutting move done extremely unprofessionally) Terrible administration (IT, restrictive company policies) Tries one-size fits all solution Firm over-hired staff and there is a serious talent delusion from those who left Booz. The current staff overall is simply not of the same caliber. We are not selling work or selling at a severe discount. Our wage is going to follow and go down.

      PWC has a broad set of services and a significant industry reach Strategy& rushed to a convenient marriage that paid the senior partners off

      Cons

      Lack of leadership Many senior partners are counting the time to retire Strategy is a mess Partners, senior and junior staff are bolting Significant overlap of services across consulting tiers Major compensation compression No upside for hard work Strategy& is getting swallowed up by PWC The accounting culture permeates the organization squeezing any sense of innovation out Lots of "me-too" consulting by mid-tier partners Very challenged project staffing due to the significant loss of talent Rampant re-badging of management consultants into strategy consultants to increase billing rates
