Pros

- Overall a helpful team - Good employee benefits

Cons

- Language skills not required for job although it says otherwise on the job description - Office environment is so quiet - feels like you can't talk or if you do everyone else is listening - VERY dull, repetitive and unsatisfying work - It's generally a very young team, therefore numerous cliques exist. People don't seem to integrate with others - No obvious progression - Management not approachable - Too much paperwork - could be modernised and made a lot easier - High turnover of staff

Catastrophic Quality - Low Pay

Pros

There are none. Not anymore.

Cons

I went through a very extensive on-boarding process to be an editor/Quality Assurance proofreader. The files I'm seeing are so bad that I have to RE-TRANSLATE everything from scratch at only $0.01 to 0.02 per word. Highly technical content is being given to inexperienced staff and I need to re-translate at low pay? Absolutely not. Too time consuming. There's rent to pay and I would have to work 90 hour weeks just to make ends meet. RWS is now adopting the sweatshop model.

Pros

Good benefits: fair salary, good pension, private health care, paid overtime and generous Christmas party and gifts. Employees generally very friendly and welcoming. The company is generally doing very well so good job security.

Cons

Extremely repetitive job. It can be quite challenging but this does not led to satisfaction as there is no end achievement. The company offers absolutely no development with no progress reviews at all after passing probation. There is a very strong blame culture where feedback is only ever negative. One manager in fact said that management should not give positive feedback to employees because if they're doing it right, they're only doing their job. Graduates generally get bored quickly and feel undervalued and unfulfilled so there is an extremely high turnover - in the EuroFile and WorldFile departments around 15 people left in the space of a year (of a department of around 45). Management seem to have accepted this rather than trying to retain and develop their employees. Senior management try to have as little to do with employees as possible.
