Pros

The schedule can be really flexible as long as you can work it out with your manager. This job is mostly for people who is current attending a college who needs to make ends meet.

Cons

Not a lot of room to move up, and salary isn't good for the amount of work involved. This is a not a job that you would want to spend too much time on. Once you transit to the next step in life, time to move on to something better.

Pros

+Shipping Discount +Job Security +Diverse co-workers +If you survive long enough, you pretty much feel invincible. FedEx has a reasonably good track record for pleasing their employees but the operating companies under the FedEx umbrella (except for Express) are Extremely suspect in how their employees are treated.

Cons

+Lack of compensation in relation to the knowledge and performance expected across the board +Lack of recognition for performance +Lack of compensation for performance to to unachievable and poorly tracked goal metrics +Employees are often forced to cut hours but are not discouraged from working off of the clock +An almost impossible number of changes dealt on a monthly basis with little preparation and extra scrutiny for non-compliance +Working in the field you are often subject to the whims of senior management which is often from outside of the company with a very loose grasp of the core business +Often you are stepping in a situation where customers have been displeased to the point that you're personal level of service can never be high enough +Lack of promotion from within (primarily NYC area) +When joining the company they will often go out of their way to low ball your salary, which you eventually learn is almost impossible to grow at an acceptable rate (as the one performance based raise you receive a year is rarely higher than .20 - .25) Over 4 years I have worked in several different districts, regions, states, and department for the company. The level of mis-management is usually dependent on the senior management in the specific area (and is not always all bad). However much of the employee frustration comes form the disconnect between corporate/senior management and the field. Even in the field, center managers and senior center managers are paid 2 - 3 times that of those on the front lines doing the dirty work. However often what you are doing is never good enough and you are constantly reminded that you at least have a job. After my time with the company I have realized there is nothing to work for/look forward to and have essentially shut down emotionally and am biding my time until I can find a way out. It is not that I dislike what I do or what I have learned as much as I am saddened and frustrated by the fact that I can barely live on my salary. And what makes it worse is that those making the money tend to be un-professional, ill-mannered, and poorly versed in the simple art of conversational grammar. Join at your own risk......

Pros

Great place to work while in school. Some stores are low key, others have draconian managers. Your experience will really depend on your particular store's manager. Management will jump at the opportunity to "write you up." The environment, as a result, wasn't always the best.

Cons

I felt there was little room for advancement (but I wasn't interested in advancing anyway). Management made very clear the budget crunch FedEx was experiencing, and my hours were cut as a result.
