Pure Technical interview. Mostly technical questions, not a lot of get to know you questions, Felt very much like a test with questions fired for about 1 hour. All Java related at least for this position.
The interview process for the software engineer entry level role at American express was a relatively simple one. At least for my experience, there were two leetcode easy questions with ample time to solve. I only had one day of interviewing.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at American Express (Phoenix, AZ) in Jan 2025
Interview
A recruiter will pull your name out of a hat and call you for a position, they'll ask simple questions and provide some guidance on the next step of the process. First interview was a call with a senior manager and a senior engineer/tech lead. They asked a handful of questions regarding my current project and the tools i'm using, mainly spring batch, as well as some questions about workflows and collaboration styles.
Afterwards there was a quick 'coding challenge' but when they asked me to share screen, the application wouldn't reflect on their end. So I just ended up writing some psuedo code for the problem.
Personally there seemed to be a disconnect in communication between myself and the interviewers, which made for a bit of a awkward interview.
Overall the interview was easy but I can't really picture myself working with a team that i'm already having trouble talking to...
